City cards can be a great way to save money in Barcelona as long as you plan to make the best use of it. Deciding whether a Barcelona city pass is worth it really depends on what you have planned for your Barcelona itinerary and how much you are likely to use the pass. In this article I’ll compare the different Barcelona city passes so you can decide which is the Barcelona city card for you – or if you’d be better off buying tickets for individual attractions.
Barcelona City Passes – A Quick Comparison
- The Barcelona Card: Free entry to 25+ attractions and free public transport, but not Sagrada Familia or Park Guell. Available for 3 – 5 days. Best Barcelona city card overall.
- Barcelona Go City All-Inclusive Pass: Free entry to 45+ Attractions (including top Gaudi attractions) but no public transport. Expensive as it includes more expensive attractions but can save you more money.
- Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass – Choose 2 to 7 Attractions or Tours for free entry, no transport included. Valid for up to 60 days after first use. Best for long-stay visitors or those just wanting to do a few things.
- Barcelona Express Card: 2 Days of transport & discounts, no free attractions. Cheap and easy to get your money back but can save more with more expensive passes. Good option for a day or 2 in Barcelona.
- ArticketBCN: Skip-the-line entry to 6 Top Art Museums, no other attractions or transport. Best for art lovers.
- Hola Barcelona Travel Card – Only includes public transport, no attractions or other discounts. Convenient to have public transport covered but not great value, better to get the Barcelona Express Card, the Barcelona Card, or just buy tickets from the metro – probably a T Casual for 10 journeys, or T Usual for more than 3 days/10 journeys.

Things to Know Before Buying a Barcelona City Pass
Most Barcelona city passes do not apply if you are only spending one day in Barcelona. Some are only valid for more than 2 or 3 days, and others aren’t worth the money as you won’t have time to see everything in a day so there is no point buying a Barcelona city card, unless you just want the convenience of having everything paid for in advance.
If you are under 25 or over 65 you can often get discounted entry tickets to museums as long as you have ID to prove your age. In this case, the Barcelona city cards might not be worth the money so check that before you buy.
Children and young adults under 18 often have discounted entry to attractions anyway, so depending on the ages of your children it may not be worth buying a city card for them.
Infants aged 3 and under don’t need a Barcelona city card as they get free entry into attractions and travel on public transport for free.
If you buy any of these Barcelona city passes online you may need to go to a tourism office to exchange your voucher for an actual card, and/or download an app to plan and book your visits.
Booking for attractions is advised, and in most cases essential, so make sure you plan your time to avoid missing out and to make the most of your pass.
The Barcelona Card
Let’s check out our first Barcelona city pass, the Barcelona Card.
What is the Barcelona Card?
The Barcelona Card is a city card created by Barcelona Turisme (Barcelona Tourist Office) which includes free entry to over 25 Barcelona museums, as well as discounts on entry to additional attractions and activities.
It also includes unlimited public transport during the duration of the ticket, and a free guidebook in 6 languages with a map of Barcelona. You can buy a pass that is valid for 3, 4 or 5 days.
Barcelona Card Prices
The price of your Barcelona discount card depends on how long you want to use it for. The minimum you can buy it for is 3 days, and the longest for 5 days – the current 2024 Barcelona Card prices are as follows:
72-Hour/3 Day Barcelona Card: € 55
96-Hour/4 Day Barcelona Card: € 65
120-Hour/5 Day Barcelona Card: € 77
Is the Barcelona Card Worth It?
As far as Barcelona discount cards go, I think The Barcelona Card is great value as long as you are going to get the use out of it!
If you are visiting Barcelona for 2 days or less then it is not worth buying the Barcelona Card, but if you are spending 3-5 days or more in the city and going to visit some of the museums that are included in the card price then it is worth buying.
Of course, if you’re not interested in the museums that are included then it doesn’t make sense to buy the Barcelona Card, so another Barcelona city card may be better, or none at all! It all depends on your interests and what you have planned for your Barcelona trip itinerary.
If you are definitely going to visit the museums and attractions that are included then the Barcelona Card is much better value than buying the individual adult entry tickets to each museum. It is also better value than the Hola Barcelona Travel card (which is just transport only), as long as you visit at least some of the museums that are included.
Barcelona Card Benefits
If you love museums and plan to visit several while you are in Barcelona, this card is great value. Even if you only visit a few of these popular Barcelona museums during your visit you will still save money using The Barcelona Card compared to buying the adult ticket prices separately.
The Barcelona Card validity period begins from the first time you use it and lasts for 72, 96, or 120 hours after the first use.
I have a list below of all of the museums and attractions included in the Barcelona Card, but it helps to plan out your trip before you decide if the Barcelona Card is worth it for you.
For example, if you plan to spend 3 days in Barcelona and get the 3-Day Barcelona Card you could plan to spend 2 days visiting the included attractions, and then spend a day visiting the Gaudi sites or other activities which aren’t included. You can still get great value from the Barcelona Card like this:
Suggested 3 Day Barcelona Itinerary Using the Barcelona Card:
Day 0
Use your Barcelona to get free transport on the train or metro from Barcelona Airport to the city centre and get the next 72 hours to enjoy the benefits of the Barcelona Card.
Day 1
Start in the Born neighbourhood and visit the Picasso Museum (normal online ticket price €12) and the Moco Museum (normal ticket price €18.95) in the morning, then the El Born Cultural and Memorial Center (usually €7).
Have some delicious tapas then head to the Gothic Quarter where you could visit the Museum of the History of Barcelona (MUHBA) at Plaça del Rei (usually €7) and the Frederic Marès Museum (normal price €4.20) or just stroll around the beautiful streets.
Day 2
Take the funicular up to Montjuic from Parallel metro station (included in your transport ticket), where you can go to the MNAC National Art Museum of Catalonia (normal price €12) and Montjuic Castle (normal price €12), as well as the Botanic Gardens (€3.50), Joan Miro Foundation (usually €14) and Olympic and Sports Museum Joan Antonio Samaranch (usually €5.80) all for free, and if you have time then you can use your card to get a discount on entry to Poble Espanyol.
Day 3
Use public transport to go to whatever other attractions you like, knowing that you have already saved money by using your Barcelona Card! You could buy tickets for the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, Casa Batllo or the FC Barcelona Museum for example, or just walk around and admire the beautiful city of Barcelona.
Separate adult entry tickets to the museums and attractions would cost €89.45, and with the Barcelona costing just €55 for 3 days it is well worth getting as you also get all public transport included with your Barcelona card.

What Transport is Included in The Barcelona Card?
Within the validity period of your Barcelona Card, you are allowed an unlimited number of journeys on the following forms of public transport in Barcelona:
- Metro
- Buses (operated by the TMB Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona)
- Trams
- Montjuïc Funicular (not the cable car)
- Urban trains in Zone 1 (operated by the FGC Generalitat city network)
- Regional Railway trains in Zone 1 (operated by Rodalies de Catalunya)
- The metro or train journey to and from the airport is included in your ticket.
The validity of the ticket begins from the first time you use it, it is not based on calendar days – so if you first use a 48 hour Barcelona Card for entry to a museum at 6pm on Friday evening, it will be valid until 6pm on Sunday evening.
The Barcelona Card only includes the public transport listed above; Aerobus Barcelona tickets are not included, nor are the Night buses (NitBus).
Discounts to Other Attractions
As well as free entry to the attractions listed above, The Barcelona Card also offers discounts on more than 40 other attractions and activities, including:

Downsides to The Barcelona Card
Unfortunately, The Barcelona Card doesn’t include entry to any of Gaudí’s famous attractions in Barcelona like the Sagrada Familia, Park Guell or Casa Batlló.
If you want to visit any other museums or things to do in Barcelona that aren’t included you’ll need to buy tickets for those separately – however you can get a discount on tickets on some attractions like La Pedrera and Casa Batlló if you present The Barcelona Card to the ticket office when you purchase your tickets.
(This does mean you won’t benefit from skip-the-line tickets if you can only get the discount when you buy it directly from the attraction.)
You could consider buying the Go City Barcelona pass instead which does include free entry to other popular attractions including guided tours of La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, and entry to the FC Barcelona Museum, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera among others, but that doesn’t include any public transport.
Extra Things to Know about The Barcelona Card

Barcelona Go City All-Inclusive Pass with 45+ Attractions
The Go City Barcelona Card used to be known as the Barcelona Pass or Go Barcelona Pass and is another Barcelona city card that includes free entry to more than 45 different attractions in Barcelona.
This differs from The Barcelona Card because the Barcelona Go City Pass includes some of Gaudí’s popular attractions including guided tours of La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, and entry to the FC Barcelona Museum, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera among others.
The Go City Barcelona pass doesn’t include public transport but it does include a ticket for the Barcelona Bus Turístic hop-on hop-off bus, although that is only valid for 1 day of your pass, not every day.
The pass is valid for up to 2 years from the date of purchase, but once it is activated it is only valid for the number of consecutive days purchased (not in 24-hour periods) so it is best to activate the pass early in the day to make the most of the days it is valid.
Barcelona Go City Pass Prices
The price of this Barcelona city pass depends on how long you want to use it for, and the longer you choose the better value it is. The minimum you can buy it for is 2 calendar days and the longest for 5 days – the current 2024 Barcelona Go City Pass prices for adults are as follows:
2 Day Barcelona Go City Pass: € 154
3 Day Barcelona Go City Pass: € 184
4 Day Barcelona Go City Pass: € 209
5 Day Barcelona Go City Pass: € 229
BUY YOUR BARCELONA GO CITY CARD
Is the Barcelona Go City Pass Worth It?
This can be hard to say as I know from experience with city cards that you can save money but you really need to make sure that your itinerary is planned to perfection and that you cram in as much as you can to make it worthwhile, however some of these experiences cost €50 if you buy them individually so if you choose the more expensive activities then you can definitely save money with the Barcelona Go City Pass.
I’ve added in some estimated prices below for some of the most expensive experiences and attractions so you can decide if this pass will be worth it for your stay.
Two of the big Gaudi sites (Sagrada Familia and Park Guell) are only included with a tour, which can take a relatively long time and so take up a big chunk of one of your days.
The longer you stay in Barcelona, the better value it becomes – so the activities you can fit in over 5 days will more likely to be worth more than €229 than what you can fit into 2 days worth at €154.

LEARN MORE ABOUT GO CITY BARCELONA
Suggested 3 Day Barcelona Itinerary Using the Go City Barcelona Card:
Day 0
Arrival day, make your way to your accommodation – don’t activate your card yet but make sure you have everything reserved for the upcoming days.
Day 1
In the morning, start with a Sagrada Familia tour (usually €60), then walk up to the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau (usually €17). Have lunch in a restaurant near La Sagrada Familia, then take the metro to Diagonal and walk to La Pedrera (usually €28) and Casa Batllo (usually €35). Late afternoon, do the Park Guell Tour (usually €30) before heading down to Gracia for dinner.
Day 2
Start in the Born neighbourhood and do the Picasso Tour & Museum (usually €42) and the Moco Museum (normal ticket price €19.95) in the morning, then a Tapas Tasting and Gothic Quarter Tour (usually €25)
While you’re in the Gothic Quarter, admire the Gothic Cathedral and visit the Museum of the History of Barcelona (MUHBA) at Plaça del Rei (usually €7) and stroll around the beautiful streets.
Day 3
Take a trip on the Barcelona Bus Turístic (€33) Red Route, where you could take a Montjuic walking tour (usually €29) go to Poble Espanyol (€15) and Olympic and Sports Museum Joan Antonio Samaranch (usually €5.80) for free or walk around and admire the views, then take the Montjuic Cable Car to Barceloneta (usually €16) or hop back on the bus.
Walk around Port Vell, and you could go to the Aquarium (€25) and take a segway tour (€49) to visit Ciutadella Park, Arc de Triomf and the Olympic Port.
Separate adult tickets to all of these museums, attractions and tours would cost €439.45, and with the Barcelona Go City Card costing just €184 for 3 days it is well worth getting, even if you only do half of these things!
All prices I’ve included are estimates of current usual prices without the pass, and attractions may change and be subject to specific opening times and tour times so this is just an example of what might be possible.
Downsides to The Barcelona Go City Pass
The Go City Barcelona pass doesn’t include any public transport, so you’ll need to buy separate transport tickets (either the Hola Barcelona Travel Card, or standard public transport tickets at the metro station).
The pass is only valid for the number of consecutive days purchased (not in 24-hour periods) so it is best to activate the pass early in the day to make the most of the days it is valid.
You’ll need to download the Barcelona Go City App to manage reservations and show your tickets at each attraction. You can’t book at all attractions so you may have to queue to get inside, for example at Casa Batllo and La Pedrera, which can take time.
The reviews on GetYourGuide aren’t as good for this Barcelona city card, while it seems to include more attractions than other city passes in Barcelona it isn’t as popular among visitors for some reason but it seems like a great deal to me.
It is more expensive than other Barcelona city passes, but it does include the more expensive attractions like Sagrada Familia and Casa Batllo so can still save you a lot of money, especially if you are in Barcelona for 3 days or more.

Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass
The Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass is also managed by Go City but differs from the normal Barcelona Go City Pass because instead of buying a pass for a number of days, instead, you choose a number of attractions to visit.
Choose 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 top attractions to visit and you could save up to 50% compared to buying individual tickets, according to the pricing on the Go City website. Download the Go City App to plan and book the attractions you want to visit, then show the digital or printed copy of your pass on the day to enter.
The pass is valid for up to 60 days after the first use, so you have plenty of time to visit all of the attractions, which can make it great value for long-stay visitors in particular.
Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass Prices
The price of this Barcelona city pass depends on how many attractions, tours or places of interest you want to visit, and the more you choose the better value it is.
The minimum you can buy it for is 2 attractions or tours and the most is 7 – the current 2024 Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass prices are as follows:
2 Attractions or Tours Pass: € 74
3 Attractions or Tours Pass: € 104
4 Attractions or Tours Pass: € 119
5 Attractions or Tours Pass: € 144
6 Attractions or Tours Pass: € 169
7 Attractions or Tours Pass: € 184
BUY YOUR BARCELONA GO CITY EXPLORER PASS
Is the Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass Worth It?
Choosing the most expensive things to do in Barcelona will get you the best value from your Explorer city pass, and if you have no time constraints, day tours can be good options to include as well as they are often the most expensive things to do in Barcelona.
I’ve selected my top 7 recommendations below, and if you bought the 7 attraction pass for €174, and chose my 7 recommendations it would usually cost €328 if you did all of these without the pass, so you’d be saving €154.
Even if you just bought the 2 attractions pass and did the Sagrada Familia tour and the Park Guell tour you’d still be saving €16 compared to the usual prices, or with the Sagrada Familia tour and the Vineyard Day Trip you’d save €65!
So if you’re planning to do these more expensive activities (but not the other attractions included in the all inclusive Barcelona Go City Pass), I’d say the Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass is definitely worth it.

Is the Barcelona Express Card Worth It?
It’s hard to say with this one, I think if you’re not planning to get any other Barcelona city cards then this option is a low investment that you can easily make your money back on, but if you are planning to do some of the more expensive attractions, like a Sagrada Familia tour then the Barcelona Go City Pass or the Barcelona Go City Explorer Pass would be better value for you.
That said, it’s only 10 euros more than the 2-day Hola Barcelona card, which is just for transport, so given that this Barcelona Express card has lots of available discounts and some freebies worth 10€ then you’re sure to get your money’s worth.

ArticketBCN – 6 Top Art Museums
ArticketBCN is perfect for art lovers as it includes skip-the-line entry to 6 of the best art museums in Barcelona. No other attractions, transport or discounts are included.
You get one free entry to the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the 6 art museums and galleries listed, and the ArticketBCN is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase so you can visit all of the locations at your own pace.
Barcelona ArticketBCN Prices
An adult ticket for anyone over 16 costs €38 per person. Children under 16 are free and will get their own ArticketBCN passport if they are accompanied by an adult with the ArticketBCN.
What is Included in the ArticketBCN?
The galleries and museums included in the ArticketBCN are:
- Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) (€11 usual price)
- Picasso Museum Barcelona (€12 normal online price)
- Fundació Antoni Tàpies (€8 usual price)
- Joan Miro Foundation (€14 usual price)
- Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) (12€ usual price)
- Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) (€6 usual price)
Is the ArticketBCN Worth Buying?
If you plan to visit most of these art museums in Barcelona and not many other attractions then in most cases, yes the ArticketBCN is worth buying, unless you decide to buy one of the other city passes that also includes entry to these museums.
The total cost of visiting each of these art museums separately is €63, so if you visit all of them then you will save €25 which is a nice saving. Even if you miss one (or even 2 of the cheaper museums) you will still save money, unless you arrange your visit around the free entry days (when it is busier and lines to get in can be long).
Children under 16 don’t pay for the ArticketBCN so would get free entry if they are with an adult who has the ArticketBCN.
Young people between 16 and 18 may not need to buy a pass – entry to the Picasso Museum is free for under 18s.
All the Articket museums are closed on Mondays except the MACBA, which closes on Tuesdays. The ArticketBCN is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, so if you visit Barcelona again the same year you can use it to visit more of the museums if you didn’t get chance on your first visit.
It is useful for residents or people spending a longer time in Barcelona such as digital nomads or people on a workation who have plenty of time to explore the city.

The Hola Barcelona Travel Card – Just Transport
The Hola Barcelona Travel Card is a popular travel card for visitors to Barcelona that gives you unlimited rides on any public transport in the city, including the metro, buses, trams, and suburban trains, within a specified time period (such as 2, 3, 4, or 5 days).
However, it doesn’t include any entry tickets for museums or attractions, it is just for transport only. You can read more about the Hola Barcelona Travel Card in my full review here.
Where to Buy the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?
You can buy the Hola Barcelona Travel card in advance online here and exchange your voucher at a Tourist Information Office (including the Tourist Information Office at the Airport and Plaça de Catalunya).
BUY YOUR HOLA BARCELONA TRAVEL CARD
Alternatively, you can purchase the card from the ticket machines at any metro station in Barcelona, including at Barcelona Airport, and the train station at Barcelona airport.
How Much Does The Hola Barcelona Card Cost?
The cost of a Hola Barcelona Card depends on how long you want to use the card for. There are several different options depending on how many days you will spend in Barcelona. These are the current Hola Barcelona Travel Card prices for 2024:
48-Hour/2 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 17.50
72-Hour/3 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 25.50
96-Hour/4 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 33.30
120-Hour/5 Day Public Transport Ticket: € 38.20
Children under 4 travel free, but everyone else will need their own Hola Barcelona Travel Card.
What is Included in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card?
Within the validity period of your Barcelona Hola Card, you are allowed an unlimited number of journeys on the following forms of public transport in Barcelona:
BUY YOUR HOLA BARCELONA TRAVEL CARD
The validity of the ticket begins from the first time you use it, it is not based on calendar days – so if first use a 48 hour Hola Barcelona ticket at 6pm on Friday evening, it will be valid until 6pm on Sunday evening.
The Hola Barcelona Card only includes the public transport listed above.
Aerobus Barcelona tickets are not included, nor are the Night buses (NitBus). No other entry tickets to attractions or tours in Barcelona are included in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.

Is The Hola Barcelona Card Worth It?
This really depends on how many times you are likely to take the metro, bus or tram during your stay in Barcelona.
Before buying your Hola Barcelona Travel Card I recommend planning out your Barcelona itinerary so you have a better idea of your schedule and how many journeys you will take, and so whether the Hola Barcelona Card will be worth it for you.
In most cases, the Hola Barcelona Travel Card will save you money so I would say that yes it is worth it, but keep reading to make sure it will be cheaper for you.
If you plan to visit several museums in Barcelona than you should also check out the Barcelona Card as that includes free entry to over 25 museums and attractions as well as unlimited public transport during the validity period – scroll down for more information about that card!
Is the Hola Barcelona Card Worth it to Save Money?
Yes, if you plan to take enough journeys to make it cheaper than buying individual tickets.
Single transport tickets for one journey on the metro cost €2.55, so if you plan to take more than 7 journeys in 48 hours then the 2 day / 48 hour Hola Barcelona Travel Card will save you money as it only costs €17.50.
If you plan to take the metro or train from Barcelona airport to the city centre, then a single airport transport ticket costs €5.50, making the Hola Barcelona Travel Card even better value as you’d only need to take 2 trips from/to the airport and 3 other journeys on the public transport to save money.
Day tickets for the Barcelona metro, buses and other public transport cost €11.20 so the price of a 48 hour/ 2-day Hola Barcelona Travel Card is cheaper than buying two separate standard day tickets for the Barcelona public transport system.
However,
If you know that you won’t need more than 10 journeys on the bus, metro or local train, including the journey to and from the airport, then the 10-journey ticket called a T-Casual (previously called a T-10 ticket) is better value as long as you don’t go over your 10 trips.
If you plan on spending 3 days or more in Barcelona and using public transport more than 10 times, then the T-Usual ticket is excellent value and cheaper than the Hola Barcelona card. The T-Usual ticket lasts for 30 days and gives you unlimited journeys on all operators in the Integrated Fare System, including the night buses and the R2 train to the airport.
Is the Hola Barcelona Card Worth it for Convenience?
The Hola Barcelona card is one of the easiest ways to take care of your public transport in Barcelona if you plan on taking more than a couple of journeys over a period of 2 days.
If you only need to take a couple of public transport journeys it may not be worth it, but another benefit of the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is knowing that all of your public transport is taken care of (including the trip to and from the airport) so you don’t have to worry about buying other tickets every time you want to take the metro or bus.
The 10-journey ticket called a T-Casual (previously called a T-10 ticket) is great if you know you won’t need more than 10 journeys on the metro or local train, including the journey to and from the airport, but then you have to make sure you don’t go over the 10 trips or you’ll need to buy another ticket.
If you are spending 3 days or more in Barcelona then I’d say that the T-Usual ticket is the best value and super convenient as it has unlimited journeys. If you plan on visiting several museums that are included in the Barcelona Card, this might be more convenient still as you’ll only have one card that takes care of your transport and museum entry.
